Franz Schubert - Violin Sonatina No. 3 (1816)
Franz Peter Schubert (31 January 1797 – 19 November 1828) was an Austrian composer of the late Classical and early Romantic eras. Despite his short lifetime, Schubert left behind a vast oeuvre, including 600 secular vocal works (mainly Lieder), seven complete symphonies, sacred music, operas, incidental music and a large body of piano and chamber music. The Piano Quintet in A major, D. 667 (Trout Quintet), the Symphony No. 8, D. 759 (Unfinished Symphony), the three last piano sonatas, D. 958-960, and his song cycles Die schöne Müllerin and Winterreise are some of his most important works. Menuetto: Allegro vivace (7:36) 4. Allegro moderato (10:08) Henryk Szeryng, violin and Ingrid Haebler, piano 1976 Decca. In 1816, Franz Schubert composed his first three violin sonatas, D 384, 385 and 408. They were published after the composer's death as Sonatinas in 1836 (Op. posth. 137). These sonatas breathe an intimate atmosphere, requiring relatively little virtuoso bravura from their performers. The lack of repeats is due to the format of the old LP. In order to have all 3 Sonatinas on one LP, some repeats had to be omitted.
