To use the VHF radio on board a vessel, two authorizations must be obtained: the RTF License and the RTF Certificate. The RTF License, or Operating License, certifies that the installed VHF device is compliant and registered, while the RTF Certificate enables the user to use the radio. RTF License: Certifies that the VHF device is compliant with the regulations and registered. It is valid for 10 years and must be renewed in the event of a change of name, port of registration, replacement or addition of devices or variation of the vessel's registration number. It is obtained by requesting the assignment of the MMSI code to the Regional Territorial Inspectorate. RTF Certificate (VHF License): Certifies that the user is authorized to use the VHF. No course or exam is required to obtain it. To request the RTF certificate, simply submit an application to the Regional Territorial Inspectorate, attaching the declaration of conformity of the device, two revenue stamps and a photocopy of an identity document.
