Cellular Breathing – Tuning into the Expanding and Condensing within the Cells / Self and Other
Cellular breathing is the expanding and condensing within cells due to the exchange of gases through the cell membrane. Our cells have been breathing since the egg that became each of us was formed. Cellular breathing establishes the foundation of our life process. Cells communicate cell to cell within their local tissue through fluid and semipermeable membranes. The decisions we make in our membranes determine what will be allowed to pass through the membranes and what will be prevented from both exiting and entering. Neighboring tissues communicate through specialized cellular systems that carry information throughout the whole body, such as fascia, fat, circulatory channels, and nerves. Where it is occurring freely, the cells are alive and healthy; where there is difficulty, the cells are struggling; and where it is not taking place, the cells are dead. In nature, cells resonate in relation to one other. Cells that are embodied, that are aware of themselves, are better able to communicate with their neighboring cells. Cells that have poor feedback have more difficulty coordinating their vibration and rhythm with other cells. As more of the cells within us become aware of themselves, there is a fuller resonance and responsiveness between cells and a greater sense of inner balance and self-knowing. In this clip, we explore cellular breathing in the wrist and hand. This clip is from the online course Embodying the Embryological Foundations of Movement: A Body-Mind Centering® Approach.
