Restoring a Backsaw (And Comparing It's Performance To New Saws)
#woodworking #toolrestoration #handtoolwoodworking In this video, I restore a backsaw to perform just as well as modern made saws. This antique Disston saw needed new teeth so I filed the saw plate flat, filed new saw teeth using a saw file and saw vise and used a saw set to set the new teeth. I went with a geometry that allows the tool to cut well when ripping or crosscutting. Now this one backsaw is good for most fine woodworking tasks including making tenons and dovetails. 0:00 Intro 0:10 Disassembly and cleaning 3:05 Fitting the handle 4:20 filing new teeth 9:35 comparing to expensive backsaws
