On January 17, 1991, the first Gulf War erupted, and millions of people around the world followed what was called the "mother of all wars" from their living rooms, as the conflict was broadcast live by CNN. Amid this war-torn atmosphere, Antonio and Mercedes had to officially sign their separation papers. It wasn't easy for either of them to end 40 years of marriage, especially for Antonio, who still didn't quite understand the reasons that led Mercedes to make this decision. Toni accompanied his parents to the signing while closely following all the news coming out of Baghdad. In Madrid, anti-war demonstrations were organized. Inés went to the protest with people from school. María, meanwhile, helped her university classmates with the banners, but the demonstrations brought back bad memories.
