THE SIGHT & THE SOUND 2/7 : Flight over Zaporizhia onboard Motor Sich MI-2 UR-MSA and Ramp Tour

In March 2014 I still had some unused vacation days from the previous year and so I decided to do a little tour of the network of Motor Sich Airlines, based in Zaporizhia, in the Central South Eastern part of the Ukraine. My travel mate, Steve Kinder needed no persuasion and instantly agreed to join. The plan was to sample the Classic AN-24 in depth because the AN-148 and AN-74 of Motor Sich are by no doubt bound to survive their older sister by years to come. This video features a special invitation from the CEO of Motor Sich Airlines to a spectacular sightseeing flight over the airport and city of Zaporizhia under stormy weather conditions followed by a most interesting tour of the ramp of Motor Sich Airlines at the opposite side of Zaporizhia Airport and a tour of the Motor Sich Aviation Muzeum in Downtown. The CEO was somewhat skeptical why people in the West show interest in old Soviet technology. The ice broke after our passion caught fire and our intention to paint a portrait of Motor Sich Airlines became clear. We were offered exceptional hospitality including this helicopter flight, a tour over the ramp of Motor Sich Airlines and an invitation to dine in a private suite and finally a tour of the exclusive museum of the Motor Sich Group featuring the long and impressive history of engine design and production. History of MI-2 UR-MSA Airframe 547620042 was originally manufactured in the configuration MI-2U on April 30, 1982 at PZL-Świdnik S.A., Poland and delivered to DOSAAF - Volunteer Society for Cooperation with the Army, Aviation, and Navy -, a Paramilitary Sport Organization of the former Soviet Union, renamed into ROSTO on September 25, 1991. The original registration of this Helicopter is unknown. Airframe 547620042 flew for the Ukrainian Air Force after 1993 and was sold to Motor Sich Airlines, registered UR-MSA on December 13, 2011.
