In this video, I demonstrate how to naturally repel moles and voles from my yard and garden using castor oil and peppermint oil, applied with a hose-end sprayer. This method does not kill moles or voles. Instead, it makes your yard so uncomfortable that they are forced to leave and relocate on their own. Why Castor Oil and Peppermint Oil Work on Moles and Voles This natural spray works in multiple ways at once, which is why it’s so effective: • Castor oil makes earthworms, grubs, and insects taste bad, removing their food source • Castor oil irritates the face, nose, and skin of moles and voles as they tunnel • Peppermint oil overwhelms their sense of smell, which they rely on to survive • The oils coat tunnels, forcing them to abandon familiar pathways • The treated soil creates a strong “no-go zone” they won’t stay in When their food tastes bad, their tunnels burn their senses, and the smell is overwhelming, they move out. How I Apply the Spray (Best Method) I use a hose-end sprayer attached to my garden hose so the oils soak deep into the soil and reach underground tunnels. I spray: • Active mole tunnels and mounds • Lawn areas with damage • Fence lines and yard edges • Around the perimeter of the garden This ensures full coverage and long-lasting results. The Grid Spraying Method (Very Important) To remove moles and voles properly, you must herd them out, not trap them inside the yard. 1️⃣ Start spraying in the areas with the most activity 2️⃣ Spray in straight lines, north to south 3️⃣ Spray again east to west, creating a grid pattern 4️⃣ Leave one open exit toward woods, fields, or unmanaged land 5️⃣ Spray behind them to push them out, not deeper into the garden 6️⃣ Finish by spraying the perimeter to block re-entry This method forces moles and voles to leave instead of relocating within your yard. How Often to Spray • Apply twice initially, 5–7 days apart • Reapply every 3–4 weeks for maintenance • Always reapply after heavy rain The oils break down naturally, so consistency is key. Best Time to Spray • Early morning or evening • When soil is slightly moist • Before or after light watering Moist soil helps pull the oils deeper into tunnels where moles and voles live.
