Two recorded interviews. Three weeks apart. The 8-year-old gave the forensic interviewer two different accounts of who hurt his brother. Danielle Swedberg has been doing forensic interviews of children since 2003, trained at Cornerhouse in Minneapolis. Family and Children's Center in La Crosse called her in on a Sunday to interview Major Heallerud the day after Alex was found dead. He was 8. Three weeks later she sat down with him again. The State played both videos for the jury before Major took the stand. What Swedberg was told before each interview is what the defense built its cross around. She did not know Dikeman was a suspect. She was not told Derek had been physically abusive or that videos existed of his violence. She was not told the supervising sergeant had asked the family to stop talking to Major before the first interview. Three weeks later the story has moved. Now Major says his mother bent Alex's leg in her room while choking him.
