Primitive Survival: How to Make Bone Fish Hooks from Scratch

Ever wondered how to make bone fish hooks using only the tools of our ancestors? 🦴🎣 In this video we dive into experimental archaeology and wilderness survival skills to craft highly effective, primitive fish hooks from scratch. What You'll Learn: Selecting the right bone material for durability Primitive carving and shaping techniques In this video, I am using whitetail deer toe bones to create some primitive fishhooks. Examples of bone fishhooks can be found in the archaeological record, and many appear similar to the ones created in this video. Any solid and intact bone can be used to make primitive bone fishhooks; however, I would avoid bone that has hairline cracks or seams too oily or soft. Use your intuition and judgment when it comes to choosing the right bone for the job. I find it important to give the bone time to season or cure. An excessively oily or wet bone can be softer to work but seems to lack the strength to endure repetitive usage. I would like to experiment more with optimizing bone seasoning techniques in order to produce consistently stronger outcomes. These hooks can be used as is by adding bait to them or tied with the deer's hair to produce flies or lures. Have fun with these and let me know if you use any to catch some fish! ‪@TheTribeOfBenjamin‬ #primitivefishing #bonehooks #primitivesurvival #BoneFishHook #PrimitiveSurvival #ExperimentalArchaeology #Bushcraft #primitiveliving #SurvivalSkills
