Warmth in the Cold

Sometimes survival doesn’t arrive looking like freedom. This follow-on from “Ain’t Your Wolves No More” picks up after the rescue — after the fear has faded, the bruises have healed, and a frightened girl begins settling into a quieter kind of captivity. Warm firelight, soft voices, a safe place to sleep… and the slow, unsettling comfort of belonging to someone who never really asked who she wanted to become. A song about trauma, dependency, kindness tangled up with control, and the dangerous relief of finally feeling safe. Part of the ongoing Music of Pelegona project. [Verse 1] I remember cold brick, I remember the night Hands like iron, no place to hide Voices laughing like I wasn’t there Like I was something they could share [Verse 2] Then a shadow crossed that broken light And someone said, “That ain’t right” Didn’t know his name or why he stayed Just knew the fear began to fade [Pre-Chorus] He held his hand out, I took hold Didn’t ask where we would go [Chorus] Now there’s firelight on the floor And I don’t shake like that no more There’s a place to rest my head And softer words than what they said If this ain’t freedom, I don’t mind It feels like peace most of the time And I sleep through most the night So it must be somethin’ right [Verse 3] I stitch the seams and mend the wear Keep the kettle warm with care He thanks me like it means a thing Like I chose this life I’m in [Verse 4] Calls me “pet” but not unkind Says it soft, like it’s mine And I don’t think to disagree Guess that word fits easily [Pre-Chorus] Snow falls hard against the door I don’t feel that cold no more [Chorus] Now there’s firelight on the floor And I don’t shake like that no more There’s a place to rest my head And softer words than what they said If this ain’t freedom, I don’t mind It feels like peace most of the time And I sleep through most the night So it must be somethin’ right [Bridge] I don’t ask about that road Or the night I left it closed Some things better left behind Some doors never cross your mind [Final Chorus] Now there’s firelight on the floor And I don’t shake like that no more There’s a place to rest my head And softer words than what they said If this ain’t freedom, I don’t know What else there is I need to hold At least I don’t think it’s wrong… At least not most the time #Pelegona #DarkFolk #CinematicMusic #Worldbuilding #FantasyMusic #OriginalSong
