Informal Business Sector Protests Economic Hardship and Insecurity in Haiti
PolyvraNews | [email protected] Slogan:“Many truths, one voice.” Marcnel Fleurcius — Editor-in-Chief Jun 04,2026 Members of the Citizen Collective of Haiti’s Informal Small Business Sector organized a peaceful march in downtown Port-au-Prince, demanding improved security conditions and assistance for victims of insecurity. The demonstration brought together merchants, artisans, and entrepreneurs who previously operated their businesses in the Champ de Mars area. Protesters marched along Avenue Martin Luther King before gathering in front of the Ministry of Justice. Participants stated that for more than two years, economic activity at Champ de Mars has been severely affected by insecurity in downtown Port-au-Prince, leaving many families facing serious financial hardship. Several demonstrators explained that they are among those who lost their homes, businesses, and personal belongings in areas such as Carrefour-Feuilles and downtown Port-au-Prince. They stressed that their ability to resume commercial activities depends on the restoration of security and support from the Haitian state. PolyvraNews continues to follow the challenges facing Haiti’s business community and citizens affected by insecurity. www.polyvranews.com #worldwide #PortAuPrince #Security #Business #ChampDeMars #PolyvraNews
