"Yes, but I neither have a motorcycle license, nor a motorcycle fit for touring..." "But, do you WANT to go?" So it began. I went and got a license for a big bike, waited out winter, bought a touring motorcycle as soon as the snow melted and began to prepare myself. There were many questions to be answered. Where to go, what to bring, what gear to wear. One by one, the questions were answered and kilometers were racked up so I go with enough experience to feel confident that I will make it there and back. After all, I knew that a month of riding was awaiting us. Sounds amazing, I know, but also exhausting. 12 000km, 23 days, only 4 of which were spent resting somewhere, that is what awaited us. We prepared ourselves mentally, physically, packed the bags as much as we can, services the bikes, got some upgrades such as heated grips, which were a must. Did not forget to bring a tent and rain gear and we set off. Our goal was to reach Norway as fast as possible so we can spend most of our time there. Therefore, we did something I do not recommend doing - we rode highways all week without stopping for a day to reset. We began our journey in Sofia, trough Romania and we spent the night at the border of Hungary. Day two was spent reaching Czechia. We wake up and have to reach the ferry in Poland as fast as possible. Fortunately, we barely made it in time to have a snack. Day four, good morning Sweden. After a quick nap on the boat, our journey continued to Stockholm. At this point we started feeling the exhaustion but pushed on. Rain did not help and we felt the cold. We rode all day, reaching Umea at around midnight on day five. Had a shower, washed our clothes, contemplated our decisions for a bit and fell asleep. Day six. We decided Finland will be the place where we take a rest and we stopped in Kemi, where we would spend day seven and relax. We spent day seven going to Santa Claus's village. Funny, but it was mid summer and the place was still packed with tourists. We tuned down our trip length for day eight, as we wanted to experience Finland a while longer, visit a sauna or two, see a reindeer, or maybe a moose. We did see our first reindeer, but no moose. So now I have a reason to go back so I can see one. Day 8, Nordkapp. You can't explain the feeling, you must experience it. Feels like being on top of the world and we felt that all the struggle was worth it. I recommend it and will totally return again only to experience it all over. Day 9-19. We spent most of our road trip in Norway, as planned. Videos or pictures do not do justice of how beautiful the fjords are. Making this video, I want to keep the memories alive before I can return once more. So there they are, shared for everyone to see, to get this idea that drove us up north so you can go too. I am especially astonished by Lofoten. It literally looks unreal in person, but the best views require a not so quick hike to see. Other noteworthy things. At around day 10 we had to find a place to change our oil as we had already racked up 6000km and had that much left to go. The KTM got a front flat tire in a big city, which was lucky. What was unfortunate is that no shop was opened, and we already made a booking for the next town over, 100km away. Therefore I spent an hour looking for tire sealant, packed the tire real good and went on (it has inner tubes, so my conveniently packed plugs would not work). Day 20. Ferry to Denmark. We felt sad as the journey was coming to an end, but also relieve that we managed to do it. Day 21-23. Many sights left unseen as after all, this was a Norway trip and time was running out. Will definitely come back to Austria as the fog and rain didn't allow us to see anything at all, but a glimpse of how beautiful it is. We also weren't prepared for the 40+ degrees celsius that awaited us after spending time at a manageable 20 for the last 3 weeks, but pushed on and slept comfortably home at day 24.
