"How To Tune-Up an Outboard Engine?" - Expansion Chamber Outboard Engine E1 - Introduction
SUBS: EN, FI Not enough power? There is an easy solution to that problem. Install a tuned length expansion chamber exhaust system into your outboard motor and you truly have one problem less and couple of dozens completely new problems to deal with! In this video I will explain you how I prepared the stock engine for the expansion chamber exhaust system. I also narrate you through the history behind this project and of course, we have a look how the exhaust pipes themselves are fabricated. Furthermore, we have a glimpse of the fore coming difficulties, problems and set-backs. The modifications that has been done so far for the engine: Porting the cylinder ports, fixing the casting imperfections, new routing for the exhaust port, new exhaust system, new exhaust cover, welding and reshaping of the combustion chambers, diy carbon fiber reed valve petals, boring the carburetor jets, new head gasket (2) new pistons (3), new bearings, new supports for the exhaust pipes, etc... 0:00 Teaser 0:29 Intro 0:49 Content description 1:45 History behind the project 4:10 Engine block modifications 5:06 Fabricating of the expansion chambers 6:06 Test start 6:59 Test start results 8:18 Another test start and driving test 9:14 Driving test results 10:24 Current situation of the project 11:00 Boat clip with stock engine 11:50 Outro This video series focuses on modifying the Yamaha 40 two cylinder two-stroke engine. It also goes by Yamaha C40 on some areas of the world. In this video series, we are going to have an deeper look on how to make the exhaust pipes for the outboard engine and also what it takes to get it running properly and reliable. This subject relates heavily on tuning two stroke engines in general. These same methods can be utilized to modify the engine of the moped, chainsaw, dirt bike, go-kart, sled (snow mobile), motorcycle, etc... Also, we are going to explore the making of the electric alternative for the hydraulic jack-plate by do-it-yourself style. The readily available jack-plates are often way too heavy for a small lightweight speed boats. It is planned that we also have a look on the different types of propellers in the series and have a comparison between the basic aluminium, stainless steel chopper and stainless steel cleaver propellers. And how knows what else kind of materials for the propellers are out there…
