It happened again! A leopard kill in front of my Trail Camera! 😱 [S1:E5]

The Hoedspruit Wildlife Estate experienced one of its worst droughts in 2024 and by late October, the veld was dry and barren. Luckily, we received 80mm of much-needed and life-giving rain in early November, and it completely transformed the estate. Within two weeks everything had become lush and green, and seemingly overnight, the animal-life changed dramatically as well... Dung-beetles appeared in their hundreds, migratory bird species like woodland kingfishers arrived and the general game like impalas and warthogs gave birth to little lambs and piglets. It was therefore no surprise that leopard activity suddenly also picked up in the Hoedspruit Wildlife Estate as residents like Kulua, Dzaha and her two sons, Vuuxika and iKwindla, regularly checked all the large holes in the estate for tasty snacks. In fact, for the first time since I started monitoring the Rotsvy Burrows, I got proof that the leopards are not only randomly walking by to check for warthogs and porcupines, but they are actually staking out the holes! Vuuxika jumped out of a tree to chase after some young warthogs in late November and in early December, Kulua actually crawled into the hole by Peter's camera a mere two minutes after the mother warthog went for a stroll, coming out with one of her piglets in her mouth.
