This is Mairo Vergara with another English tip. And today, I'm going to explain how to use Much and Many. These are two very commonly used words in English that appear frequently in tests and at school. But, I'm going to explain a tip to automate and simplify the use of these two words. Using Much Let's start with much. We often confuse the two because both can mean many or a lot. Much and many can cause confusion. Think of much as a lot, but like a lot of water. Much water literally means a lot of water. In the same way that much money is a lot of money. Something that can't be counted. For example: you don't turn on the tap and say that a lot of water is coming out. So, anything that can't be counted is used with "much." Therefore, "much" always means "a lot." Too much, how much, etc. You know those medical tips about drinking lots of water a day to keep your body hydrated? You can ask exactly: how much water should I drink per day? Or, for example, you want to say you have a lot: there's too much water in the bucket. It's something you can't count. In grammar, countable and uncountable nouns will appear, but when you think too much about the rules, it ends up getting complicated. However, when you think about a lot of water, a lot of sand, or a lot of money, it becomes easier to understand this concept. Use of "many" On the other hand, we have "many." If "much" has to do with "a lot," "many" refers to "many." So, if you're a popular person and have thousands of friends on Facebook, you can say: I have many friends on Facebook. Countable things: many computers, many tables, many cameras, and so on. Anything you can count uses "many." Another example: when you ask how many friends you have on Facebook? How many friends do you have on Facebook? The basic difference between "many" and "much" is that "much" is for things that can't be counted (a lot of water, a lot of sand) and "many" is for things that can be calculated (many friends, many people). So, if you use common sense, you can easily grasp this. Differentiation The final tip applies to any kind of word difference. The key to understanding the difference between "many" and "much" is to expose yourself to the language. When you have a lot of contact with English, you naturally perceive when to use "many" or "much." In fact, you will never hear the expression "much friends," but always the correct "many friends." If you hear someone say "much friends," you will understand that it's wrong and that it has never appeared before, precisely because it's incorrect. Simply, it will sound strange and won't make any sense. Therefore, when you expose yourself to the language, you experience a much more organic, relaxed, and even enjoyable learning process without the anxiety of grammatical rules. When you have an understanding of the concept combined with exposure to the language, it enhances learning. However, one thing doesn't exclude the other. If you want the best of both worlds, expose yourself to the language and learn a little about the difference; things will flow much more smoothly in your English learning. ► Complete study material on MUCH x MANY: https://goo.gl/p9Fdxu ► SUBSCRIBE TO THE CHANNEL: https://goo.gl/1xSD0A ► VISIT THE WEBSITE: https://goo.gl/iHHpuE ► LIKE THE FANPAGE: / mairovergara2
