Solo summit camping in the Lake District, long dark nights ahead!
Join me on another solo hike and wildcamp in the beautiful Lake District. A few weeks back I had a nightmare with roads closed, which meant I had to change plans at the last minute, and it was a bit of a nightmare. In this episode I take the route I had planned for that day. Parking up near the Patterdale hotel, I walk up towards Arnison crag and head out into the open fells, it's later in the day than I had planned, so time is of the essence! By the time I get to the foot of Arnison crag my legs are in bits due to training them the day before, no excuses though, gotta push on! I loop round, and start the ascent to the first summit if the day, Birks, where on reaching the top you get fantastic 360 views, including a cracking shot of a very Autumnal Ullswater. At this point the wind had started to pick up, and it was quite bitter on the hands, so I pushed on towards summit number 2 of the day, St Sunday crag, my legs were really suffering now, which was made more difficult by fighting the ever increasing wind, and the mountains around me were now covered in fog! Hitting the summit I was greated by moody views in all directions, and with the sun almost down it looked like gold peaking through the clouds! Then the fog started to roll in, time to look for a pitch, the summit was very rocky, and the wind was now at the 50mph mark and bitterly cold, no doubt I could have found somewhere for the tent, but I thought it better to return to Birks to camp. On getting there it was very dark, so I throw the Kuiu stormstar 2 up as quickly as possible, and climb inside to warm up. It's a long dark night in the tent this time of year, so I enjoy my evening meal, get my head down early, and fall asleep to the sound of the wind battering the tent. Awaking early after a good night's sleep the wind was even stronger now, breakfast and a coffee set me up nicely, on getting out of the tent it was a struggle packing away in 50+ mph winds, before heading back to the car. A very enjoyable trip, and nice to get some decent milage in the legs, if a little painful 🤣 don't forget to check out my merchandise store A Cumbrian Lad Outdoors Merch | Cardz Unique https://share.google/ffxykM8yl5eE66yWd if you fancy some A Cumbrian lad branded items 🙏❤️ I hope you all enjoy, atb Paul 🙏🏕🏕🏕😁 #camping #wind #mountains #tent #hiking
