In the United States alone, it is estimated that more than two million Christians participate in them each year. But what are short-term missions? The simple definition would be: the mobilization of a Christian for a short period of time with the goal of furthering the Kingdom of God. These types of trips have been praised for engaging many in missions, but also criticized for their significant limitations. However, this mission model isn't something very old in the history of the Church; rather, it corresponds to a modern trend. It's a trend that has emerged in the Church over the last 50 years and is becoming increasingly popular, generating much controversy and raising many concerns. For example, should we call someone who does missions for a few months or weeks a missionary? Should we call these programs missions, or simply refer to them as Christian tourism? How much of an impact do these programs have on communities? Or are they more focused on the missionary experience than on evangelism? In this video, we try to delve deeper into these concerns.
