Wing Chun, a popular art that has its origins from a Princess Nun in China called Wu Mei who taught the art to a woman named Wing Chun (hence the name), has been popularized in modern day culture by individuals such as Bruce Lee and Ip Man. However, we are featuring instead another branch of Wing Chun known as Yip Kin Wing Chun. The founder of Yip Kin Wing Chun system (葉堅詠春拳), Grandmaster Yip Kin (葉堅), was born in 1883 during the Qing Dynasty. In 1918, Grandmaster Yip Kin migrated to Malaya followed Red Boat opera troupe termed that travels along the coast of the British Straits Settlement. In 1926, at the age 43, GM Yip Kin founded his first martial arts school called the Lotus Hall（莲花堂）. This is his legacy. Performing the patterns in our Yip Kin Wing Chun series is Sifu Kahar Saidun, an accomplished Malaysian and one of the few masters who carries on the mantle of this styles in Malaysia today.
