Date: October 5th, 2024 in Rotterdam (The Netherlands) The Rotterdam traffic police escorting the yearly Sophia City Tour here. A special day for children with long-term or serious illnesses and their families, organised by the Sophia Children's Hospital and the Rotterdam-Rijnmond Safety Region (Rotterdam-Rijnmond Fire Department) with the full cooperation of partners such as the police and the Red Cross. The children will be picked up from the hospital by dozens of emergency vehicles and will be allowed to look inside all the cars and ask the emergency services any questions they may have. The entire group of firetrucks/cars, police cars and ambulances will then be escorted by the traffic police motorcyclists and Audi Intervention unit to a location somewhere in the region, of course with a detour so that the children can enjoy the ride with lights and sirens. In this case, the route led to the fire station in Ridderkerk where all kinds of emergency services were ready to welcome the children and ensure that they did not have to think about being ill for a day. The officers of the Police Correction Unit, the historical collection of the Rotterdam police, the Team Parate Eenheid (TPE) and the Police K9's of Rotterdam (TSH) with the famous police dog Bumper showed the children everything about their vehicles and materials. The last two, the arrest-unit (TPE) and the K9-unit (TSH) even arrested a criminal with the help of one of the children. The Barendrecht Youth Fire Brigade was also present to let all the children put out a (fictitious) fire with the fire hose. There were also mini pancakes, fries and snacks for all the children. Finally, the children were brought back to the hospital by the emergency services with lights and sirens. A day to never forget! Also present was the Rotterdam police unit chief Fred Westerbeke. The highest boss of the Rotterdam police was a motorcyclist for years with the traffic police and still regularly does a shift. For example, he can be found on his motorcycle every year during the supervision of the Rotterdam marathon.
