Giant Rock - Aliens, Exploding Hermits, and a Time Travel Machine

Just outside of Landers, CA is Giant Rock, believed to be the largest freestanding boulder in the world. It was long a sacred meeting place for Native Americans, but starting in the 1930s, things started getting a little weird. A man named Frank Critzer moved out to Giant Rock in the early 1930s, and thought "this would be a good place to live." So that's what he did. He dug under the rock, building himself a 400 square foot room, and lived there for the next decade. When the United States entered World War 2, the German immigrant living under a rock with a radio and a airstrip caught the attention of authorities. When three agents tried to question him, the visit ended up in a explosion under the rock, and Critzer dead. A few years later George Van Tassel took possession of the property, and moved under Giant Rock himself. Van Tassel's plan was to turn it into an airfield. Then one night he said he was visited by aliens from the planet Venus, and they told him how to build a time travel energy machine that can rejuvenate the human body. Giant Rock became a major destination for UFO enthusiasts, and Van Tassel began building the machine the Venusians gave him the plan for, the Integratron.
