Born on March 23, 1982, in Badjob Gare, in the Nyong-et-Kellé department, Janvier Alfred Ngalle Mbock's destiny was not predetermined. Confronted with blindness at a young age, he could have seen his horizons close in on him. Yet, quite the opposite happened: where others would have given up, he chose to build his life, brick by brick, with rare determination. His schooling began at the Rehabilitation Institute for the Blind in Buea, where he laid the foundations for his independence and his relationship with knowledge. Even then, the traits of a rigorous mind and an extraordinary will were evident. After obtaining his First School Leaving Certificate, he continued his secondary studies, culminating in the German A4 baccalaureate, which he earned in 2003 at the Ndog Hem high school. But it was at the University of Douala that his academic excellence truly shone. A bachelor's degree, then a master's degree in private law with a specialization in judicial careers: at each stage, he distinguished himself. Graduating top of his class in 2005 and second in 2007, he confirmed not only his intellectual abilities but also his discipline and work ethic. For him, disability is not a limitation but a reality to be embraced and overcome. His immersion in the professional world began with internships, notably at the Institute of International Relations of Cameroon (IRIC), and then in several law firms. There, he learned the fundamentals of the profession: drafting legal documents, providing legal advice, managing cases, and also the delicate art of advocacy. Over the years, he refined his skills, developed solid practical experience, and gained confidence. Between 2015 and 2018, as a trainee lawyer, he reached a decisive milestone. He no longer simply assisted: he pleaded, defended, and persuaded. His mastery of oratory became his signature. In July 2018, his efforts were rewarded: he was admitted to the Cameroon Bar, becoming the country's first blind lawyer. A significant achievement, but above all, a powerful symbol. His commitment, however, extends beyond the courtroom. Sensitive to social issues and fundamental rights, he joined the Cameroon Human Rights Commission, first as an intern, and then, since December 2023, as a staff member. In his role, he contributes to the protection and promotion of human rights, with a particular focus on peaceful methods of conflict resolution. His journey is that of a man who refused to be defined by the gaze of others. Fluent in Braille and using assistive technology, and driven by a remarkable capacity for adaptation, he demonstrates daily that limitations are often more social than real. Today, he stands as an inspiring figure, a man who, beyond appearances, has forged his own path. A living example of resilience, courage, and excellence.
