ENNEAGRAM The Enneagram is the result of ancient knowledge that reached the West brought by George Gurdjieff, who introduced the use of the ancient Enneagram map applicable to dynamic processes, providing a valuable tool for awakening self-awareness. In the 1970s, Oscar Ichazo and Claudio Naranjo developed the system. The system is based on a circle with nine equidistant points, interconnected by nine lines, a shape that gave rise to its name (Ennea = nine; Grammos = points). Each of these points represents a type of person; the lines are the movements of transformation and reciprocal influence between the types. Thus, according to this model, there are nine basic groups of people, and the members of each group have a specific dominant characteristic or a main negative trait. This characteristic or trait establishes the way each person is and acts in the world, hence the importance of identifying it. Each group developed learned adaptation strategies as survival responses in childhood, in the pursuit of happiness and a subjective way of relating to the world and to oneself. The problem is that throughout life we ​​continue to use these strategies unconsciously, compulsively, and mechanically, often generating more unhappiness and dissatisfaction. Applied to the study of people, the Enneagram highlights their similarities and differences, talents and difficulties, possibilities and limitations. Many of these characteristics are unknown or hidden because of the discomfort or vulnerability they cause; others are used compulsively or excessively, thus losing their advantages. Becoming aware of these characteristics and their mechanisms is the path to gaining some control over compulsiveness. It is a tool that offers the possibility of change, especially in the way a person approaches life. Through the Enneagram, it's possible to see your current state and receive guidance on how to transcend its limitations, leading to greater self-acceptance and significant improvement in interpersonal relationships.
