Chief Bere and Chief Matibi were taken by white colonizers to South Africa, where they were trained and indoctrinated with European values, including Christianity. The intention was for them to return and convince their people to submit to white rule. However, the Chiefs rebelled against their colonizers, which led to severe consequences. Chief Bere was brutally beheaded. Today, the Shumba Murambwi clan is advocating for the Bere people's rights to benefit from minerals extracted from their ancestral lands. Unfortunately, these resources were exploited by powerful mafia-like interests and white colonial powers, who also established the Mhungudza Mountain Army Base.
