2026 Honda Passport TrailSport: The Off-Roader You ACTUALLY Need

Let’s test drive and review the 2026 Honda Passport TrailSport Elite! And thanks to ‪@XPELinc‬ for sponsoring this video! The Passport got an overhaul for the 2026 model year, marking the start of the fourth generation of the car. “TrailSport” is a trim across the Honda lineup, which marks the most off-road-ready versions of vehicles like the Passport, Pilot, and Ridgeline. I actually drove a 2026 Passport TrailSport prototype in Moab, Utah back in late 2024, before we knew the full specs of the car. Honda was only discussing off-road features back then, so the cars were covered in semi-camouflage with tarps all over the inside. We couldn’t drive it on-road, and we didn’t even know the horsepower figures yet. In Moab, Honda told us the Passport Trailsport would offer all kinds of other off-road features, such as: steel skid plates to protect the underbody and stainless-steel rock sliders to protect the sides; a factory rear hitch for towing and being a first point of contact while off-roading, so you don’t slam the rear fascia into a rock; hidden exhaust tips (again, so you don’t slam them into a rock); off-road cameras that can help you angle your wheels and see the terrain under you; cast-iron loop recovery points on the front of the SUV; sunken valve stems on the tires so you don’t scrape them or break them off; and new, 31-inch tires that would be the largest in the Honda lineup. Remember that not all of these features are standard, especially on lower TrailSport trims, so always confirm what features and package selections a particular car has before buying it. The Passport Trailsport has a 3.5-liter (J35!) V6 engine that makes 285 horsepower and 262 pound-feet of torque. This car is slightly more powerful than the outgoing Trailsport, and it also upgrades from a 9-speed automatic transmission to a 10-speed. That power goes to all four wheels with torque-vectoring all-wheel drive (AWD), and torque vectoring lets the car send the wheels different amounts of torque for better traction. This is useful on road and off — especially while rock crawling. When we were in Moab, Honda said that in Trail mode, the Passport’s new “torque logic” system would detect if one side of the rear axle loses contact with the ground and send torque to the wheel that still has traction, allowing the car to drive over rocks and uneven terrain. Once the wheel without traction hits the ground, the car will smoothly increase its torque again. The Passport TrailSport has four versions: the TrailSport, TrailSport Blackout, TrailSport Elite, and TrailSport Elite Blackout. It also has a bunch of exterior paint colors — like orange, black, green, red, white, blue, and more — and off-road features. In a few years (or even now!), it’ll be a great platform for any owner to do off-road mods. The Passport TrailSport is one of my favorite new cars on the market, and I think it has a ton of long-term appeal. So if you’re interested in touring the Passport, let’s go for a drive!
