This Toy Story Game is WAY Better Than I Remember…

With Toy Story 5 officially set to release in theaters on June 19, 2026, I wanted to go back and replay Toy Story 3: The Video Game to see if this nostalgic Pixar game still holds up today. In this video, we revisit Toy Story 3 and jump back into the adventure with Woody, Buzz, Jessie, and the rest of the gang to find out whether this is still one of the best movie tie-in games ever made. The game originally released in 2010, and one of the big reasons it stood out was its mix of Story Mode and the fan-favorite Toy Box Mode, which let players explore, complete missions, and create their own fun in an open-ended western town. So with all the hype building around Toy Story 5 and Pixar bringing the toys back for a new “toy meets tech” story, this felt like the perfect time to revisit one of the most beloved Pixar games and see whether it’s still amazing, still underrated, or maybe even better than people remember. Origins & Impact Toy Story (1995) was the first fully computer-animated feature film in history. It launched Pixar into global recognition and pioneered modern CG animation. It centered on the secret lives of toys when humans aren’t looking. 2. Core Characters Woody – a loyal cowboy doll, originally Andy’s favorite. Buzz Lightyear – a space ranger action figure who famously believed he was a real space hero. Other recurring characters include Jessie, Bullseye, Rex, Hamm, Slinky, Bo Peep, the Aliens, Lotso (villain in 3), and Forky (introduced in 4). 3. The Films Toy Story (1995) – Woody vs Buzz rivalry → friendship. Toy Story 2 (1999) – Woody’s origins + choices about loyalty. Toy Story 3 (2010) – Andy grows up; emotional goodbye; daycare escape. Toy Story 4 (2019) – Woody’s journey ends with Bo Peep; Buzz learns to trust his inner voice. Toy Story 5 – officially announced; early hints suggest a new thematic direction involving modern technology, new characters, and potentially reuniting iconic characters. 4. Spin-Offs & Shorts Includes Toy Story Toons, Toy Story of Terror, Toy Story That Time Forgot, and the Disney+ series Forky Asks a Question. About the Toy Story Games: 1. Toy Story (1995 – SNES, Genesis, PC) A platformer loosely based on the first film. Side-scrolling levels featuring Woody, including RC racing segments and boss fights. 2. Toy Story 2: Buzz Lightyear to the Rescue! (1999 – PS1, N64, Dreamcast, PC) The first major leap forward. A beloved 3D platformer where you play as Buzz. Frequently compared to Super Mario 64 because of its mission-based levels. 3. Toy Story Racer (2001 – PS1, GBA) A kart racer featuring Woody, Buzz, Hamm, Bo Peep, and others. The PS1 version is strong; the GBA version is more limited. Not a major landmark, but a fun side entry. 4.
