Brodie went from close calls with jail to becoming a community role model | ABC Australia
Aboriginal man Brodie Germaine spent his early twenties getting into trouble in his hometown of Mount Isa. He was self-medicating his mental health issues with drugs and alcohol, but after one too many close calls with police he decided he needed to turn his life around. He opened his own gym to gain a sense of community, but quickly noticed that other young Aboriginal men were struggling with the same issues, as he'd previously done. When he’s not training them in his gym, he now takes young men out on the stunning country surrounding Mount Isa. They make didgeridoos, cook rib bones on an open fire and — most importantly — open up about their struggles.
