Cephalotus follicularis - The Australian Pitcher Plant
Hey plant people, I had to share the strange beauty of Cephalotus follicularis with you all! They are another fascinating carnivorous plant we love growing here at Redleaf Exotics. Endemic to Southwestern Australia, this genus experiences a Mediterranean climate with warm, dry summers and cool, moist winters. Although there is only one species in the genus, there are many cultivars in cultivation. We grow these right along side our Heliamphora and Nepenthes in a very well-draining medium consisting of long fiber sphagnum moss and perlite, topped with an inch or two of pumice. Our ceps love the extra drainage! We take care not to have water hanging around the crown. They can rot if they are kept too moist! We don’t give our plants dormancy and they seem to be just fine. Although they can handle an occasional frost, temperatures between 50-80F are best. Thanks All!
