An Introduction to Italian Wine (for Spirits Nerds &c.) in One Mixed Case
A month ago, as a new attempt to introduce wine to spirits nerds, I put together a case of wine that I felt represented a good cross section of major international varietals, regions, and styles, did a video on it ( • Another Introduction to Wine (for Spirits ... ), and then reported on the wines to the Patron supporters. The idea was that even if folks couldn't get all of those particular bottles, or not at the same prices, that they could use my reasoning to find something similar. The Patrons have now requested that I do something similar just for Italy, so I'm setting up in the horrible lighting by the Christmas tree to show off a second, all-Italian case: it's a bit more expensive this time (around $230) because I wanted to fit in some pricier stuff, but you're getting what I think is a pretty good cross-section of wine from the north, center, south, and islands of Italy. Here's the list: Bergadano Barolo 2019 Inama "Vin Soave" Soave Classico 2024 Ilatium Morini "Leòn" Amarone della Valpolicella 2018 Tenuta Cocci Grifoni "Tarà" Falerio Pecorino 2024 Il Selciato Chianti Classico Riserva 2021 Capezzana " Villa di Capezzana" Carmignano 2019 Illuminati "Ilico" Montepulciano d'Abruzzo Riserva 2020 Vestini Campagnano "Kajanero" Terre del Volturno 2022 Produttori di Manduria "Uni" Fiano 2024 Cantina Sociale Cooperativa Copertino Riserva 2016 Argiolas Costamolino Vermentino di Sardegna 2024 Barone di Villagrande Etna Rosso 2021 And hopefully those of you interested in exploring Italian wines will find this helpful! (Again, the reasoning is meant to be more important than the specific bottles.) And notes for the patrons soon! But let me know your thoughts down below...
