"Potzmusig Special" explores this question and delves deep into the world of yodeling – from its historical roots to its vibrant present. The human voice is always at the heart of the story: as an instrument, as a prayer, as a means of communication across valleys. The program follows yodelers from all over Switzerland who, with great dedication and passion, have contributed to the international recognition of this tradition. Among those supporting the project are the Swiss Yodeling Association, the Lucerne University of Applied Sciences and Arts – Music, the Roothuus Gonten cultural center, and the Swiss Folk Culture Association. But the driving force behind this success is the people who live and breathe yodeling every day and pass it on. Well-known figures in the scene share their stories – as do lesser-known voices that demonstrate how yodeling is a way of life for many young people today: It's not just about singing, but about community, belonging, and the joy of shared sound. Among those featured are Nadja Räss, yodeler and head of folk music at the Lucerne University of Applied Sciences and Arts – Music; Karin Niederberger, president of the Swiss Yodeling Association; and Melanie Oesch, one of the country's most renowned yodelers. Also participating are composer and yodeler Hannes Fuhrer, yodeling greats Emil Wallimann, Arlette Wismer, Daria Occhini, Natascha Monney, and the "Juuzer" and "Heimweh" singer Bernhard Betschart. Special attention is being paid to young talent: Workshops, school projects, and youth camps will demonstrate how yodeling can find its way back into classrooms and the everyday lives of young people. Experts and dedicated facilitators will showcase the potential of nurturing young talent and how tradition and innovation can merge. The highlight will be the historic moment on December 11, 2025, when Swiss yodeling will be officially inscribed on the UNESCO list in New Delhi – a milestone for Swiss folk culture, which will be celebrated a few days later with the yodeling community in Switzerland.
