Data-Driven Urban Design
Hong Kong's high-density urbanism offers valuable lessons in sustainable planning, yet its Compact City model places pressures on public spaces and urban processes. This lecture presents ongoing research into the data-driven analysis of urban spaces and activities, aimed at informing human-centric and evidence-based methods for the design of liveable and vibrant urban areas. About the presenter: Jeroen van Ameijde is Assistant Professor and Director of the MSc. in Urban Design Programme at the School of Architecture, The Chinese University of Hong Kong (CUHK). He currently explores the application of data-driven methods in teaching, research and in the analysis and revitalisation of Hong Kong’s public housing. The ‘Urban + Computation’ lecture series invites industry and academic experts from around the world to present their work and showcase the different methods they use to integrate advanced computation in the design of urban environments. The presentations explore the role of various computational methodologies on both the analytic and generative approaches to urban design. The lecture series is Organised by Dr. Mohammed Makki, part of his Design Studio in the Master of Architecture program in the School of Architecture at the University of Technology Sydney.
