3 Flowing Djembe Grooves from Kala – Soli-Style 12/8 Classics (Week 4)
We continue our Two Paths / Two Feelings series with Kala — a joyful rhythm from the Soli family, associated with the making of an arrow and traditionally played on the final day of the Soli ceremony. In this lesson we explore three accompaniment patterns that share the distinctive before-the-beat feeling often found in Soli-style rhythms. It’s a flowing groove that helps bridge the simpler pieces of the series with the more challenging material still to come. Patterns referenced via Djembe-Videos as part of my ongoing study of traditional Malinké rhythms. ----------------------------------- Timestamps: Intro 0:00 The Three Patterns 02:45 Practise exercise + 'skate board' technique 13:47 Wrap up 18:37 ----------------------------------- I’m Steve, founder of Unbeatable Energy and an African drumming enthusiast for over 30 years! 🪘 If you enjoyed this video please like & subscribe – it really helps our channel grow.
