I'll explain why it's falling a little later. The bell tower is located in the city of Venev, Tula Oblast, and is considered to have been founded in 1371. Originally, the city was located 7 km from its current location, near the village of Guryevo. Near the village of Guryevo are the famous Guryev limestone quarries, with 180 km of passages. But I'll talk about that in the next video. Let's take a look at the bell tower, and I'll read what I found online and add my comments. There's a quarry near Venev where limestone was mined for several centuries, so the city had stone, and it was abundant. It's logical that building is cheapest with what's plentiful and readily available. If stone was plentiful in the surrounding area, then the city was most likely built of stone. So what could have caused such a terrible fire in 1824? We don't know exactly what the city was built from, but the bell tower was definitely stone. How can a bell tower, made of stone, burn down? Why didn't they build a stone staircase initially? It was easy for the builders to construct stone columns over 40 meters high. Why didn't they consider such an important detail as a stone staircase? How did the spire burn if it had a metal frame that was still covered with metal? Or were there wooden planks between the metal frame and the sheet metal? The drone footage shows that the spire was assembled from metal rods, which, in my opinion, were joined using a forging method—that is, two rods were overlapped and connected with several rings. An interesting question: was the spire's metal structure joined on-site, at a height of approximately 64 meters, or on the ground? If at a height, how did they forge the joints? Did they have a small, self-contained furnace up there? Incidentally, a self-contained furnace was definitely used at another site, and rivets were heated in that furnace to join the elements of the water barrel in the water tower. I'll tell you about that object another time. If the spire was assembled on the ground, how was it lifted there? I wonder if this platform was there originally, and whether it also burned in the fire of 1834? Or was the enormous platform built only to complete the fourth tier of the bell tower? Regarding the platform, I remembered that platforms like this, big enough for a horse and cart, were actually built, albeit in the Urals and for the metallurgical industry. At least one old photograph could shed light on the dark history of the bell tower's construction. We know from official historians that it was completed in 1860, but for some reason there aren't any photographs of the construction. Strangely enough, no construction drawings have survived either.
