How To Compete for US Medical Residency Positions

Alright! Just to change things up, this video is a little special. In this clip, I speak with Dr. Katy Coan, a skillful endocrine surgeon in Phoenix, Arizona, who currently serves as the Assistant Program Director of the General Surgery Residency for the Arizona Health Education Alliance. The Alliance is one of the largest providers of Graduate Medical Education in Arizona, USA and represents a partnership between Creighton University School of Medicine, Dignity Health St. Joseph’s Hospital and Medical Center, Valleywise Health, and District Medical Group, Inc. In this video, Dr. Coan and I discuss her journey in medicine that led her to specific geographical locations, specialties, teams, and positions throughout her already fruitful career as a surgeon. We also discuss common questions from medical students and residents about what a student can do to strengthen their applications for residency, and what NOT to do as well. As the Chair of Professionalism and Ethics for the American Medical Student Association (AMSA) Chapter here at Poznan University of Medical Sciences, I strive to share wisdom from amazing faculty and leadership within cutting-edge academic institutions with medical students who aspire to match in the United States. Our team is devoted to streaming information and interviews like this in various outlets like YouTube as well as the AMSA PUMS Podcast (you can find the link here:   / user-436346671   ) Check it out to see more topics and interviews with students, alumni, and everything in between! As always, feel free to reach out with questions or requests for future content. Lastly—and most importantly—special thanks to the marvelous Dr. Katy Coan for taking the time to share a part of her journey with us.
