Batching Out Ice Cream Scoop Handles - NOVA Comet II - Wood Turning
In this video I share my process for batching out inc cream scoop handles. I recently bought a Nova Comet II lathe. It was an easy and quick woodturning project. One of the reasons I bought it was for making presents. For Christmas this year my wife and I decided to give ice cream scoops that I made to close friends and relatives. We needed a dozen. Since I'd never batched out a project like this it was a learning experience. This video covers how I made the scoops. It includes deciding on what to make, figuring out how many to make, selecting the wood and the batching out process. I conclude the video with what I learned and suggestions for others based on my experience. This project was a lot of fun and something I'd like to do again. This is one of my videos designed to help other woodworkers. Please remember, as is pointed out in the video, that I'm still learning and relearning how to turn. It's been almost fifty years since I turned anything on a wood lathe. My skills are a little rusty. Techniques and tools I used many years ago are now somewhat outdated. While there is no right way to turn on a lather I still need to hone my skills. While I used Savannah ice cream scoop kits there are many different ones on the market. I found the kits on the Peachtree Woodworking Supplies website (link below). We did find this to be a nice scoop design that actually works very well. You might want to explore the different brands and types before you decide what kit you want to use. You might prefer a different design or material. There are many different websites that sell ice cream scoop kits for woodturning. Please visit our website - http://www.wbfinewoodworking.com Our website contains more information on Don, his shop, the projects he has made and contains links to all our videos. It is updated regularly. There is also an email link that you can use to contact Don. This video was produced by Don Bullock for WB Fine Woodworking. The material is Copyrighted by Donald W.
