I've grown up playing Smash, and upon getting interested in the more competitive side of the game, I started to encounter problems with the way it worked. The promise of competitively focused mechanics combined with accessible execution enticed me, but I was never really willing to switch over until Shovel Knight was announced as a playable character. Interested in seeing one of my favorite characters in a playable platfighter form, I bought the game and dove in. Little did I know that while Workshop and Shovel Knight would be what I came for, the system mechanics, game balance, and most importantly presentation were why I stayed. The art was excellent, and the music... well, ‪@flashygoodness‬ ' Rivals of Aether OST is one of my favorites of all time. I've played hundreds of hours of Rivals at this point, jamming out to the OST the whole time (seriously, I basically never play the game with audio off) and ever since that fateful day in 2020, patiently awaiting that silly little 3D project they teased. Fast forward to about a month ago. and they announce the release date. October 23rd. My hype is through the roof.
