The History of Horse Riding: The Iberian Horse

As we continue to trace the history of horses and riding, we are taking a long form look at the Iberian horse from prehistory to the Spanish Riding School. It was a fascinating topic which I was introduced to me by Jennifer who lent me The Royal Horses of Europe, a book by Sylvia Loch, explaining the history of Lusitano and Andalusian horses. I ended my telling of the story with the development of the Spanish Riding School in the early 1700's as this period of time from the early modern period and the Renaissance is when our modern horsemanship practices and exercises began and were highly developed. We'll continue exploring this period of time a bit longer as we look at the flourishing of riding education and of the books published that we still refer to today.
