Labetalol : Drug Calculation using infusion pump Beta Blockers Labetalol Dosage (Adults) Intermittent Intravenous dosage 10 to 20 mg IV. May give additional doses up to 40 to 80 mg/dose every 10 minutes until desired effect. Continuous Intravenous Infusion dosage Labetalol 2 to 8 mg/minute continuous IV infusion Labetalol total dose: 50 to 200 mg. Max total dose: 300 mg. ============================================================= Add 200 mg of labetalol to 160 mL of diluent. 2 ampoule of Inj Labetalol + 160 ml Normal saline 0.9% (40ml + 160ml= 200ml) 200ml = 200mg Concentration: 1 mg/mL. Rate: Administer at a rate of 2 mg/min. Titrate for desired response. Use infusion pump to ensure accurate dose ============================================================ Nurses Responsibilities Vital signs should be monitored every 5– 15 min during and for several hours after administration. (Monitor BP frequently) Assess for orthostatic hypotension when assisting patient up from supine position. Patients receiving labetalol IV must be supine during and for 3 hr after administration. Monitor intake and output and daily weight.
