Singapore. Village or Kampung in March 1968 - Film 90062

Singapore. Three bicycles cycle down a concrete pavement in village. Running parallel to a shallow monsoon drain. Two young boys, one Malay and one Indian, holding wooden sticks and rolling along a wooden hoop; further up the pavement behind them, an elderly Chinese lady in a samfu carries several rattan chairs. Various shots of residents of all races, dressed in both modern western garb and traditional clothes (samfus, kebayas, etc), walking around, many gawping or grinning at the camera. The view from the top of the hill behind (?) the kampung, across the roofs of low-rise industrial buildings, to the sea, and an island which may be Pulau Sentosa across a narrow stretch of water; a large lone coconut tree sways in the foreground. A maze of washing lines filled with colourful clothes in the kampung; children cluster on the sandy ground playing or just milling around. An irate father calls his son away. An elderly Malay lady in a sarong sits on a bench talking to a man. Coconut trees sway around the children playing a ball game. Many children are in traditional garb but others are in school uniform: white shirts and shorts or blouses and pinafores or skirts.
