Grande Regata dos Moliceiros voltou a unir a Região de Aveiro entre a Torreira e Aveiro

The tradition, culture, and identity of the Aveiro Lagoon were highlighted on June 27, 2026, with the Great Moliceiro Boat Regatta of the Aveiro Region, an event that once again connected Torreira (Murtosa) to Cais do Sal, in Aveiro. The initiative, considered one of the most emblematic in the region, celebrated once again the moliceiros, a major symbol of the landscape and collective memory of the region. The morning began at Praia do Monte Branco, in Torreira, with the traditional Panel Competition at 11:00 AM, where the boats displayed their satirical and thematic paintings, reinforcing the creativity and humor characteristic of this popular art. At 2:30 PM, the regatta began, traversing the lagoon towards Aveiro, attracting residents, visitors, and lovers of maritime culture. The arrival of the moliceiros at Cais do Sal / Marinha da Troncalhada occurred around 4:00 PM, in an atmosphere of great anticipation and celebration. The Awards Ceremony, held at 5 PM, concluded the program, recognizing the best performances and the most creative panels. The Great Moliceiro Regatta reaffirms itself as a central moment in valuing the maritime identity of the Aveiro Region, highlighting the role of the moliceiro as a unique vessel deeply connected to the territory. This year, the event gained even greater relevance after the recognition of the “Moliceiro Boat: Art of Naval Carpentry of the Aveiro Region” as Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity by UNESCO, reinforcing the importance of its preservation and promotion.
