When Suzuki introduced the DR750 in 1988, sales figures fell far short of expectations. The beak-like design was too extreme, although the motorcycle was certainly suitable for touring. When the DR BIG 800 SR43 was introduced in 1991, the entire concept shifted even further towards touring capability, but lost some handling and enduro-like performance. At 225 kg, its weight was also significantly higher than that of its predecessors. Nevertheless, the new concept proved successful: Sales figures increased considerably and remained at a consistently high level from 1991 to 1998. Then, unfortunately, the era of the BIG came to an end; the last SR43 models were sold out by 2000.
