There are also 60 campsites connected to the beach by a nature trail and boardwalk and large pavilions for having an event or picnic. This beach area has only been a state park since 1991, but millions of locals and visitors have made it there go-to destination when visiting Destin, Florida. EXPERIENCES -Fishing for popular surf species including pompano, flounder, and redfish. -Camping with full amenities including water, electricity, picnic tables, fire and grill rings, and shower/laundry houses. -Hiking on the 3/4 mile long nature trail. -Picnicking in one of the six day use pavilions which include barbecue grills, picnic tables, and restroom facilities.  -Swimming in the Gulf of Mexico along the mile long shoreline within the state park.  -Wildlife spotting of such species as sea turtles, stingrays, fish, and dolphins.
