Dr. El-Deiry recounts contributions to precision oncology & updates on WIN Consortium at 2026 ISOPT

Wafik S. El-Deiry, MD, PhD, FACP, American Cancer Society Professor, Chair of the Worldwide Innovative Network (WIN) Consortium in Personalized Cancer Medicine, Mencoff University Professor in Medical Science and Founding Director of the Legorreta Cancer Center at Brown University presents a keynote lecture at the 2026 International Society of Oncology Prevention and Treatment (ISOPT) meeting in Shenzen, China on June 13, 2026. He recounted some of his contributions to the field including the discovery of p21(WAF1) that explained the p53-dependent DNA damage checkpoint response that prevents cancer, discovery of TRAIL Death Receptors DR5 that connected the p53 tumor suppressor to the innate immune system, and discovery of small molecule TIC10/ONC201 in his laboratory nearly 20 years ago. ONC201 was approved by the US FDA on August 6, 2025 as the first ever approval for treatment of aggressive recurrent H3K27M-mutated diffuse gliomas. Dr El-Deiry provided an update on the WIN Consortium’s activities focused on innovation, collaboration and global impact in Precision Oncology. Later that evening on June 13, 2026, Dr. El-Deiry received the 2026 ISOPT International Precision Oncology Research Award in Hong Kong, China.
