3 Must Do Moves If You Are 5-10 Years From Retirement
Welcome to YOUR Channel - Wisconsin Back Porch Retirement! Welcome to the channel! In this video, I share straightforward, no-nonsense advice for anyone 5-10 years away from retirement who wants to strengthen their financial position. I'm not here chasing clicks, subscribers, or trying to sell you anything—just real talk from experience to help you move forward. I also address something important: a few of you reached out about a fake AI-generated ad circulating on YouTube that uses my likeness to promote a health product for breathing and lung support. I appreciate every subscriber who tipped me off and thank you sincerely. I searched but couldn't locate it to report— if you spot it, feel free to let me know so we can address these misleading tactics together. Today we focus on the 3 Must-Do Moves to help you catch up financially. These were touched on in a previous video (linked at the end), but these stand out as the most critical in my view for building security in your final working years. 1. Maximize your 401(k) and grab that employer match if available. This is essentially free money that can significantly boost your nest egg. Contribute enough to get the full match—it's one of the smartest moves for retirement savers. 2. Fully fund your IRA. Push contributions to the annual government limits. If you're 50 or older, take advantage of catch-up contributions to accelerate your savings. For 2026, the base limit is $7,500 with an extra $1,100 catch-up for those 50+. 3. Consider buying quality, low-mileage used cars often associated with older drivers. These vehicles are typically well-maintained with lower mileage, available at more affordable prices due to perception, and can reduce ongoing costs like insurance. Skip unnecessary add-ons such as towing reimbursement—I’ve had it before and never needed it. Beyond the big three, we discuss practical side steps: preparing healthy meals at home to control food costs and support your well-being, exploring a side gig for extra income if it fits your schedule, and picking up new hobbies or interests now that can enrich your retirement years. Remember, this is the home stretch—make time for yourself and your partner (if you have one). Don’t feel guilty about prioritizing enjoyment and rest as you prepare for this next chapter. Thank you for watching, and I wish you all the best until the next video!
