…you are watching Program #9 of TELE BORICUAZO… In 2024, one of the most important tropical music orchestras of the 20th century celebrated its first centenary: La Sonora Matanzas. Its name betrays its origins, the province of Matanzas in Cuba. Founded in 1924 by Cuban musician Valentín Cané, over the years the oldest orchestra in the Americas has invited numerous Latin American artists to record and perform with them. Today, honoring those first hundred years, we want to highlight the foreign singers who have the honor of being part of the history of this valuable musical institution. The vast majority of Sonora's excellent musicians and singers were Cuban, as they should be, but outside of Cuba, there are stars from 10 of the other 20 countries that make up Latin America, half of them: the Dominican Republic, Haiti, Nicaragua, Venezuela, Uruguay, Peru, Mexico, Colombia, Argentina, and Puerto Rico.
