This Secret Camino Stop Restored My Faith In Humanity 🥹❤️ | Portomarín to Ligonde (Part 2/4)

Welcome back to Part 2 of our 4-part cinematic journey along the historic Camino de Santiago! 🌿🚶‍♂️ If you want a real, unfiltered manual on how to experience the true soul of The Way, this episode is all about the magic that happens when you let go of hotels and fully embrace the pilgrim community. Today’s video covers a shorter, incredibly scenic walk from Portomarín to the tiny, historic village of Ligonde. Along the trail, the medieval history of this path truly came alive when I crossed paths with a family completing the Camino on horseback. Emerging through the misty Galician paths, they looked exactly like ancient knights guarding the trail. 🐎⚔️ But the absolute highlight of the day was arriving at our destination: a traditional donativo albergue (a donation-based shelter). The moment I walked up to the door, I was welcomed with warm, enthusiastic free hugs from two cute little boys and a glass of ice-cold lemonade. It was exactly what a weary traveler needed. I spent the afternoon completely relaxing in their beautiful little garden, waiting for the showers to open at 5:00 PM. While the other pilgrims went inside for movie time, I chose to stay out in the sun, losing myself in a fascinating, hours-long conversation with a wise, 74-year-old gentleman from the Netherlands. At 7:00 PM, the volunteers brought us all together for an unforgettable communal dinner. We didn't just share a meal; we played a beautiful card game where everyone around the table took turns sharing their deeply personal life stories and reasons for walking the Camino. By the end of the night, strangers felt like family. To end this incredible day, I knew I had a massive, grueling 37-kilometer trek ahead of me the next morning. I was the first one up, stepping into the quiet kitchen at 4:00 AM. To my absolute amazement, the volunteers had already quietly set the breakfast table for me, leaving behind two beautiful, handwritten letters—one from the albergue team and another from the father of one of the young volunteers. Fueled by their incredible kindness and a full stomach, I stepped out into the pitch-black morning, ready for the long road to Ribadiso... unaware of the brutal challenge that was waiting for me. As always, put on your headphones! The audio here is 100% natural and unedited—just the raw sound of nature, the crackle of gravel, and the pure spirit of the trail. 🎧✨ 🚨 NEXT EPISODE TEASER: Part 3 is going to test me to my absolute limits. Watch out for the next video, where a sudden, severe foot injury right before the infamous "roller coaster" hills forces me to fight through the pain for the final 10+ kilometers into Ribadiso! A Pilgrim's Manual: Fun Facts About Today's Route! 🧠🇪🇸 The Ancient Knightly Tradition: Seeing pilgrims on horseback isn't just a modern novelty—it's a direct callback to the Middle Ages! Historically, wealthy pilgrims, knights, and royalty rode horses or mules along the Camino, and the ancient code of hospitality required monasteries to provide stables and food for the animals just like they did for the walkers. 🐴🛡️ The Soul of the Donativo: Donation-based albergues (donativos) are run entirely by volunteer hospitaleros (often past pilgrims giving back to the trail). There are no fixed prices; they provide shelter, coffee, dinner, and breakfast out of pure love, trusting that you will leave a donation to help fund the next day's pilgrims. 🏡❤️ Ligonde's Royal History: Though it feels like a tiny, quiet farming hamlet today, Ligonde was highly important in centuries past. It was so prominent that both Roman Emperor Charles V and King Philip II of Spain actually stayed overnight in this tiny village while on their own journeys! 👑🏰 If this beautiful look at the human side of the Camino touched your heart, please hit that LIKE button and SUBSCRIBE so you don't miss the intense survival story in Part 3! 🗺️❤️ Hashtags: #CaminoDeSantiago #TheWay #Portomarin #Ligonde #WalkingTour #NatureSounds #TravelVlog #SpainTravel #Galicia #HikingAdventures #Pilgrimage #Donativo #SlowTravel #HumanKindness
