Diana Ross - Remember Me (original 7" mix)
The bittersweet Remember Me was Diana Ross' third solo single and the first from her album Surrender. Curiously, Surrender was already the 3rd album album to be released since she had left the Supremes in 1970. Berry Gordy had carefully planned this important phase in his protégé's career. Originally Someday We'll Be Together was meant to be her first release, but since the lyrics were so fitting, it was then released as the Supremes swan song (even though the group is not heard on the song). Diana then began recording tracks for her debut album with Howe Bones as outside producer, but these sessions were aborted and Ashford & Simpson took over and started from scratch. However, the first single Reach Out And Touch (Somebody's Hand) didn't do very well. In fact it was outsold by The Supremes first single with Jean Terrell as new lead singer, Up The Ladder To The Roof. Berry hastily send Diana back into the studio to record a more radio friendly easy listening album, Everything Is Everything. But the the 2nd single from the Ashford & Simpson LP, Ain't No Mountain High Enough, became an unexpected #1 super hit and it was decided that the follow-up should again be an Ashford & Simpson song with a similar vibe and so Remember Me (and the album Surrender) came to be.
