🎙️ Ayar : La torture exquise ☀️🌑

Ready to suffer (but with a smile)? 😅 In this new episode, we're dissecting our February 17th article about Ayar: Children of the Sun, a gem of a game coming very soon to Super Meeple in French. Behind the elegant and beautiful box designed by Ian O'Toole lies a formidable machine built to make us suffer! We'll explain why this expert game is a truly "exquisite torture": • The cruel Knizia Syndrome: Your final score will simply be determined by the lower of your two gauges, the Sun or the Moon. It's a constant mental workout to maintain a perpetual balance! • A funnel-shaped dramatic structure: Although the game relies on a classic worker placement mechanic to perform actions (farming, weaving, pottery, lake racing), the tension builds steadily. Action spaces are removed at the end of each round, transforming the 4th and final round into a veritable tragedy filled with unavoidable deadlocks. • The ideal setup: This is a tense game tailor-made for 3 or 4 players who enjoy intellectual challenges. Be warned, we don't recommend playing with 2 players: the game becomes much looser and the tension dissipates. • The component drawback: A small point to note regarding the player boards (in the original version at least): the lack of double-layered boards makes handling risky with the slightest bump. We hope Super Meeple will fix this! Ultimately, this game with its celestial theme forces us to keep our feet on the ground and raises a genuine philosophical question: should a great strategy game reward the audacity of specialization, or the wisdom of balance? Let's discuss it right now! 🎧👇
