Moghaddam made this statement while meeting with several media crews on the sidelines of the funeral procession of the late Ayatollah Ali Khamenei in Tehran, Sunday (July 5, 2026). Moghaddam emphasized that Indonesia is a good friend of Iran. According to him, Indonesia holds an important position because it is one of the countries with the largest Muslim populations in the world. "Southeast Asia and Indonesia are major bases of Islam. We have and continue to maintain excellent relations," said Moghaddam. Regarding whether or not an Indonesian delegation will attend Khamenei's funeral procession, Moghaddam said he had no problem with it. He also expressed his gratitude if Indonesia would send representatives to attend the event. According to Moghaddam, the good relations between Iran and Indonesia exist not only at the government level, but also among the people of both countries. On Thursday (July 2, 2026), Iranian authorities informed all diplomatic missions that the official tribute ceremony would be attended by high-ranking Iranian central government officials. The Indonesian government then decided to send Foreign Minister Sugiono to attend Khamenei's funeral procession on Thursday (July 9, 2026). Sugiono will attend with the Speaker of the People's Consultative Assembly (MPR), Ahmad Muzani.
