Kazakhstan's President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev has urged Vladimir Putin to freeze the war in Ukraine, while sitting alongside his Russian counterpart at a summit in Siberia. Suggesting that negotiations be revived, Tokayev said that ‘young people are dying’ and that ‘all this has to be stopped’. His comments are notable given Kazakhstan's close ties with Russia, even as Astana has consistently avoided endorsing Moscow's offensive.
