Uranium glass: How to determine if you have these radioactive dishes in your home.
It should not surprise you that, given my obsession with all things food, I have developed a passion for collecting dishes. I have several hutches full of unique dishware and part of my collection includes dishes made with uranium oxide, commonly referred to as uranium glass. My daughter studies physics at McMaster University and over the Christmas break we thought it would be fun to do a video measuring the radioactivity of each dish. In this video, you will see how we used a Geiger counter to determine if each dish was radioactive; then we used a black light to see if the dish illuminates. Watch this video right through to the end to learn how to determine if you have any uranium glass. Also, for some additional information check out the blog "Glowing into the new year with uranium glass" at https://cansanity.com/?p=5486 Please leave a comment if you have some uranium glass and don't forget to subscribe to the Cansanity YouTube channel!😀
